Construction

Beginning on Monday morning, September 30, 2013, the new Terminal Building construction project will begin. Phase 1 of the project will involve construction of a new main entrance to the site of the new terminal building to be located on the west side of the airport. Site work will begin to involve leveling the area for a new parking lot, new general aviation terminal building, new gate access to the private hangars and a separate gate to access the apron.

Phase 1 of the construction project is expected to have little or no impact of normal operations at the airport, except to the closure of 4 tie-down spots on the west side of the apron. Access to the fuel farm will be available, but restricted to taxiing on the east side of the apron only.

Over the course of the next 3 years or so, a multitude of airport improvements are planned and have been preliminarily approved. Some of these improvements include:

  • Installation of FAA-approved standardized pilot-controlled medium intensity runway lights
  • Installation of automated aerodrome beacon
  • Upgrade markings on runway in preparation for non-precision approach
  • Implementation of new Instrument Approach Procedure for RNAV (GPS) for Runway 32
  • Installation of terrain and obstacle beacon lights

Airport users are asked to monitor this website as well as obtaining NOTAMS to be up to date on construction projects and affected services.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

  • 06/02/2014 - The majority of this phase's improvement projects have been completed and all services have been restored.
  • 05/20/2014 - Rain has pushed many improvement projects back another week. The following closures are scheduled:
  1. Runway 14/32 CLOSED May 28th 7AM to May 30th 6AM local
  2. Taxiways Alpha and Bravo CLOSED AND BARRICADED May 28th 7AM to May 30th 6AM local
  3. All airport lighting OUT OF SERVICE May 28th 7AM to May 30th 6PM local
  4. Automated Weather Observation System OUT OF SERVICE May 28th 7AM to May 30th 6PM local
  5. 100LL Fuel System OUT OF SERVICE May 28th 7AM to May 30th 6PM local
  6. New road to terminal building CLOSED May 27th to May 28th - use Airport Road as alternate.
  • 05/06/2014 - The next phase of airport improvements takes place beginning Monday, May 19th and should last up to two weeks. During this phase, several projects will be underway and will result in runway and access road closures as well as interruption of some electrical services.

Runway markings removal and re-striping for non-precision instrument approaches will begin early next week and is expected to result in a runway closure for up to a continuous 48 hour period. When the runway closes for this work, a NOTAM will be posted with the FAA/Flight Service and physical closed markers will be placed. As soon as the contractors decide on the dates and times, a second notice will be sent through the e-Notice system and the FAA NOTAM will be published. Please note that there will be no "except x-minute PPR" (prior permission required) offered during this runway closure.

All on-field electrical services including pilot-controlled runway lighting, AWOS station, apron lighting and fueling service will be interrupted for an indeterminate period of time during this phase while electrical contractors relocate utility service from the old terminal building over to the new terminal building. When the contractors settle on a date, time and duration of interruption of these services, a second notice will be sent through the e-Notice system and a FAA NOTAM will be published.

Pavement work for the new main access road will also commence during this phase, resulting in closure of the new main access road for a few hours. When this happens, the old entrance will need to be utilized.  When the contractors settle on a date, time and duration of the paving work, a second notice will be sent through the e-Notice system.

Ground site work, new access gates and fencing installation around the new terminal building will also be underway during this phase. Normal access may be limited or restricted during this time. When the contractors settle on a date, time and duration of the paving work, a second notice will be sent through the e-Notice system.

Airport Management asks users to please be patient while this important work gets completed and to report any issues to Coordinator Tony Milligan at (207) 512-5552. Every effort will be made to minimize to the extent possible any closures or restrictions during this phase of airport improvements.
  • 02/12/2014 - The new terminal building is now open to the public. Although not 100% completed yet, the facility is ready for occupancy.
  • 12/21/2013 - The west side of the apron has been re-opened. Construction of the new terminal building is proceeding after experiencing a few delays.

  • 10/31/2013 - The Hangar Road is no longer accessible from the main gate entrance. Authorized personnel (tenants, pass holders, etc) must now enter on the newly constructed gravel road off the North Road. Eventually, this will be paved and will become the main entrance for all airport access. All other visitors should continue using the main gate entrance to access the parking area and terminal building for now.
